Can I drink while landing on a dosmetic commercial airline?

I (and a companion) were on a flight recently. We each had a drink that was unfinished. The stewardess insisted that we finish the drink and give her the empty container for landing purposes. According to her -- this was a FAA regulation. I tried to look this up on the Internet and failed. An official answer and link to a FAA website rule book would be appreciated.
